February “Flip this Pattern”: Flipped Creation Two

RaeAnna, from Sewing Mama RaeAnna, is here to give you her “Flipped Creation”
for the Violette Field Threads, Josephine.
************************************************************************

I had a blast thinking up FLIP ideas for the Violette Field Threads Josephine Dress!  When Ashley and Emily approached me to sign up for one of the challenges I knew I wanted to pick a VFT pattern!  The girls that make these patterns are local to me and I’ve always been a huge fan of their work!
The Josephine has the most adorable pintucking and ruffle placket and I knew I wanted to keep that design feature in my FLIP!  (Who doesn’t love ruffles?!)

However, I also knew that I wanted to use a knit for the pattern and I immediately thought “HOODIE!”  (Who doesn’t love hoodies?!)

Since I would be using a zipper, I needed to add a pintucked strip to each side.  I marked lines down the fabric (cotton) and added the pintucking.
Instead of fabric ruffles I used ruffled ribbon. After attaching the ribbon I top stitched each strip on the front pieces of the pattern next to the ribbon.  Adding the zipper completed the attachment of these pintuck strips!
The fabric I used for the hoodie vest was a 3xl sweatshirt.  I am a little obsessed with this refashion technique – I did the same thing with my Snowflake & Lace look by cutting up a new sweatshirt to make the pattern.  The cost ends up being about the same.  I get plenty of fabric + ribbing for $6 when I buy the 3xl sweatshirt!  I was able to keep the bottom ribbing attached from the original sweatshirt and then finished the armholes with extra ribbing.
The hood lining is white minky dot to keep Eva Mae’s head nice and warm while we play outside! And I used teal ribbon to enclose the seam where the hood and vest meet. It also encloses the top of the zipper.
I cut the size 2T dress from the Josephine pattern but trimmed off about 1.5″ from the front pieces since I wouldn’t be pintucking the sweatshirt fleece and would be using a zipper for the front.
The length is perfect for my happy little girl!
I have learned that candy is a must have when you go out for a photoshoot!
She was so cooperative and sweet at the park!
This hoodie vest is practical for our Tennessee spring (and mild winters)!  The wind can be chilly but the sun is warm.  Pairing a long sleeve t-shirt underneath the vest is the perfect solution for a day out to play!

And this little girl will be playing in style!
Thank you so much for reading – I know I’m up some pretty stiff competition (Veronica and I get together several times a month for playdates….I think I should call her and offer a wager – if I win she has to buy me coffee next time we meet! ha!  And if she wins I’ll buy!)  Regardless of who wins this month, I had the best time participating in the series and hope I can do it again next year!  Thanks for having me!

Totally loving the coral & aqua! I really like how you used the cozy minky to line the hood!
