Jo, from Shaffer Sisters, is here to give you her “Flipped Creation”

We are super grateful that Frances Suzanne invited us over. They have been a sewing inspiration for me since I tend to be such free spirit. They pin and pipe, and do exact work, with a pattern! Novel idea right? Well, knowing that I am a free spirit, and that I don’t tend to use a pattern, we will jump right in to this flip.
Because I have so many boys, my sisters signed me up to flip this specific pattern. Boys pants! Perfect, since Superman needed a new pair of snow pants! There were a few things I loved about the pattern. First, I loved those adorable welt pockets. And secondly, I loved the step by step instructions, with a picture that fit each description. There are 36 steps, with pictures. I love love love when things are broken down for ease of use. Thanks to Shwin Designs, this flip became much easier!
I used a slate gray water proof suiting for the covering fabric. I used a marbled grey fleece for the warm interior fabric. Both were from the fabric stash my mom gave me over the summer. I am so lucky to have such a sweet Momma!
I think it is so fun to have a rainbow of fabrics to choose from!
I measured Superman’s waist, inseam, and from his hip to his outer ankle. Then I laid a pair of his loose pj’s out to cut the legs of the snow pants. Following the guide of the pants, as well as my measurements. In the end Superman was pretty happy, and the pants were done just in time for the first snow of the season. Literally hot off the needles.
I added some rough top stitching for a little more of a rugged look.
But I do love a good welt pocket!

Though I love the pattern, I had a few modifications in mind. Like the fact that even though I loved the welt pockets they are not very practical for snow. So I had to make the faux pockets. I also had to make the pants a little more durable, with a double lined knee, double top stitching, extra room in the knees for bending and rolling snow balls, a warm fleece lining, adjustable elastic waist band- for going over extra clothing, and no front pockets. Feeeeew! I am tired now, you? No, well it could be due to the 3 week old in the crib, and not this flip!
Ahh Cute little….sorry back to the flip we go.
My 10 year old is in a size 12 in boys, and this pattern only goes to a 7. Obviously I had to make a few sizing adjustments. But in the end, he thinks these new snow pants are pretty awesome.
And now that I am done flippin’, I am going back to this…

Snow pants are a great idea and perfect for this time of year AND I cannot believe you did all of this with a 3 week old in your life… your son is superman, but you are supermom!!!

Ooh, I wouldn’t have though of making snow-pants. That’s a fun flip! And that baby is adorable. =)
