Sunki Number One: For the Big Sis

October’s “Flip this Pattern” was all about Figgy’s Studio’s Sunki Dress / Tunic / Leggings Pattern. And, while we are the hostesses of this series….it appears we aren’t the best at adhering to our own set deadlines!! Obviously…
Last spring, while we were mulling over the 12 patterns to include in “Flip this Pattern,” the Sunki Dress kept coming to the forefront of discussion. You see, we had never sewn a Figgy’s Pattern before, but had our eyes on a few for quite some time {and had even bought the Zephyr and Ayashe patterns in the hopes to sew this past summer}. The lines of the Sunki were hard to resist, so we decided it was a ‘must’ for October’s pattern.
Since we had no prior contact with Shelly {Figgy’s Studio}, we were unsure how she would respond to the series concept, her pattern being used as a month, etc.

She was amazing – completely ‘buying into’ the concept, gifting the competitors a free Sunki pattern, and offering a prize for both the viewers’ choice winner AND sew-along winner!!
Then…she surprised us with a pattern of our own as well!! Oh my…we were on Cloud Nine!!
To familiarize ourselves with the pattern, we began with a minor ‘flip’ for EA  {barely able to call it a ‘flip’ when it was said and done}.

Our “flips” to the Sunki Dress / Tunic / Leggings included:
Adding bias trim around the neckline, sleeves, and pocket areas.
Sewing a size 2/3, but cutting the length to the 18 month size – creating more of a tunic length.
Exchanging a zippered closure for a buttoned one.
The leggings we left ‘as is’ (size 2/3), and now realize we probably should have sewn a size 4/5 instead. While she easily fit into the measurements of a 2/3, they worked…but were snug – at best!!
Not the type of outfit you need for going on a bear hunt – something our niece pretends to do ALL. THE. TIME.  **And loves it, although this picture would suggest otherwise {Who knows? Maybe she just spotted a bear}!!

Little sister, CL, reaped the rewards of a more thorough “flip”! Something needed for a very inquisitive, active one year old…..Any ideas?? Let’s say, “Sister Mama” was extremely happy with CL’s latest wardrobe addition…it should save her time in the long run…
**Blog photos compliments of “Sister Mama” {let it be known that no child was hurt in the ‘bear hunt’ or ensuing photo shoot}…
