Remixes Make Us Reel {PR&P: season 7, week 1}

Truth: Project Run and Play Remixes make us REEL….
It’s a struggle – each and every season…

Maybe because true, sewing abilities are evidenced in the talented creations shared, or that drafting is such a large portion of the challenge. Both concepts are practically obsolete to us; hence, the reeling effect.

The only saving grace for us this season???
It was the Oliver and S, Popover Sundress – a pattern we had recently sewn twice for EA.

But, then we went off the deep end – literally – taking the plunge with a terry cloth, tie-dyed, chevron towel. “Tie-dye” AND chevron?? Are you kidding us??

Introducing: The “FAUX Romper”: perfect for an independent, energetic, potty-trained toddler.

So, what did we do? It was a simple ‘remix.’ Really, it was {besides trying to line up those wonky chevron stripes between pieces}. In fact, we had done something similar for little sister a few months ago, using the Maja Heirloom, Sophie Top, as a starting point.

We combined the yoke and skirt pieces of the Popover Sundress to create one piece for the top. Three inches in width was added around the base – 3/4 inch per piece, angled outward. Finally, we shortened the 3T size by 3 inches.

The hemline was kept the same, but used as a casing.
Pre-made bias tape was used around the arms, shoulder ties, and bodice area.
The additional width and elastic casing created the “faux romper” appearance…
and, my oh my, could our niece MOVE in it!
*Side note: there was absolutely, positively no fear in losing her along the way!
We paired the faux romper top with the Kid Shorts {MADE} racer shorts,
tying the bias trim into those as well.
It was definitely a different type of look for us,
but one that will get LOTS of wear in the months to come.
So, once again, thank you Project Run and Play for the push we needed
to make ‘active wear / play clothes’ for our niece’s wardrobe….
As well as a garment that can pull double-duty as loungewear / sleepwear…

Next PR&P Challenge: The CANDY Challenge! Another s-t-r-e-t-c-h {hint, hint} for us….but we used our favorite candy – and expended much THOUGHT / ENERGY to tie it all together. Any guesses??
