The Tinny {August “Flip this Pattern”: OUR FLIP}

Well, it is a good thing we are the ladies behind the scenes of the “Flip this Pattern” series…..because otherwise, who knows if we’d ever make the deadline?!?! BUT: We did it….we “flipped” Straight Grain’sTinny Dress.

We pattern tested for An when this pattern was released – choosing the asymmetrical collar, notched sleeves, and circle skirt options of the pattern.

And, when we discussed a ‘flip’, we were all geared up to make the butterfly collar and tulip sleeves….But, somehow when it was said and done, we ended with this look: open collar, notched sleeves, and pleated skirt.
It was a minor flip, but about all our feeble brains could handle at present.

Were we pleased with the results?? YOU BET! It was as we envisioned it {eventually}…..of course, the ‘fit’ on the niece is yet to be determined!!  So, this outfit WILL BE blogged about again in the upcoming weeks.

What exactly did we “FLIP” on An’s amazing pattern?

1. Lengthened the bodice area by 3 inches, straightening the waistline to eliminate the curve.

2. Straightened the side seams, eliminating the angle and making the sides perpendicular to the waistline.

3. Shortened the sleeves by 1/2 inch.
4. Split the front bodice piece into 3 pieces, and added piping between the sections (*accounting for seam allowances). We lined up the piping to continue the lines of the open collar of An’s original pattern.
5. Added faux buttons along the front of the bodice.
6. Shortened the pleated skirt portion by 4 inches.
There you have it: Our FLIP, our style, and our shortest blog post to date on our blog {or so we think}….

Remember, you have until 11:00 PM CST tonight to vote for your favorite “FLIP of the MONTH.“

**Please note: An, of Straight-Grain, is still running a 15% discount on ALL of her patterns through the end of the month {discount code = FLIP}. So, participate or not….you can still take advantage of a great deal before the end of the month!
