August “Flip this Pattern”: Flipped Creation One

Hayley, from Welcome to the Mouse House, is here to give you her “Flipped Creation”
for the Straight-Grain, Tinny Dress.
*******************************************************************************************
Well, my goodness… I am so excited to be over here!
When the lovely ladies from Frances Suzanne gave us the choice of which pattern to sign up for, I scrambled to pick The Tinny Dress by Straight Grain.  I adore classic, vintage designs… and the peter pan collar was calling my name.   I also knew right away that I wanted to turn the dress into a dressy {reversible} jacket for my daughter.
Introducing:  The Tinny Jacket
In order to make a jacket instead of a dress, I took An’s pattern and reversed it.  The bodice now opens in the front and the back is closed.  I also widened the front bodice and skirt several inches to allow for an overlapping placket.  The sleeves were lengthened to wrist length.
Finally, I lined the entire jacket with white fleece for comfort and it also now completely reversible!

While the bird fabric is Ainsley’s favorite…
…I also love the look of the classic white jacket.
I love that you can catch a little glimpse of the yellow on the cuffs.
This was so fun to make and it actually makes me look forward to the cooler weather.
Here is the back view.
Side view.
This shows the wonderful cuffs that I didn’t change.
 I loved them so much!
My daughter thought wearing a winter coat in the middle of July was really funny… at first.
Then, she realized that it wasn’t so fun.
This is her grumpy face.
(the dress pattern is Violette Fields Josephine)
Boy, was she “pleased” when I told her that we still needed photos of the white side!
I literally cannot wait to see what the other talented ladies come up with!!!
************************************************************************
“Flip this Pattern” voting will begin on Friday, August 23 and run through Sunday, August 25.
Stay tuned for more “Flips” coming your way….every Thursday….between now and then!
And, in the meantime, link up your “Flipped Pattern” and be inspired by others sewing along!

Wow, that is so so fashionable & cute! Love the fabrics too. I understand about your model wearing a warm coat because I did the same thing Saturday night with my grandson & shot the photos as fast as I could while he modeled a puffy vest…when I took the vest off, his face was priceless! http://xoxograndma.blogspot.com/2013/08/puffy-toddler-vests.html
