July “Flip this Pattern”: Flipped Creation Two

Rachel, from nest full of eggs, is here to give you her “Flipped Creation”
for the Oliver and S, Roller Skate Dress / Tunic.
***************************************************************************

I’m a huge fan of Oliver+S sewing patterns having used them for 3.5 years now. Their sewing patterns are very well done, you learn how to sew by following them. I highly recommend them! For my Rollerskate Dress flip I created the Tricolor Chevron.

I loved High School geometry, can you tell? šŸ˜‰ I have really been enjoying working with: shapes, piecing, angles, matching up stripes… fun, fun, fun! I created my own textile by cutting out strips of 3 different solid colored cotton fabrics and sewing them together to make striped fabric. I cut out the pattern pieces at a 45 degree angle, then sewed everything together.
The alterations I made to the Rollerskate Dress were: I went one size down, eliminated the elastic waistband, added on seam side pockets, and added .5 inch in length.
The inspiration for the tricolor textile I created came from photos from the Christian Siriano (Project Runway Season 4 winner) Resort 2014 collection.
A cute short dress for the summer to be at one of Minnesota’s 10,000 lakes.
Many thanks for including me in the “Flip this Pattern” series!
************************************************************************
“Flip this Pattern” voting will begin on Friday,Ā July 19Ā and run through Sunday, July 21.
Stay tuned for more “Flips” coming your way….every Thursday….between now and then!
And, in the meantime, link up your “Flipped Pattern” and be inspired by others sewing along!
