June Pattern, Competitors, and Prizes {Flip this Pattern}

While the June pattern for the  “Flip this Pattern” series needs no formal introduction, we want to give you one nonetheless. Heidi’s Bubble Pocket Shorts hit the blogging world by storm about a year ago when she sewed a pair for the Shorts on the Line sewing series.

We quickly joined the blogging masses in chanting “Pattern-Pattern-Pattern” {think fist pump in the air moment}. Well, fortunately for us, Heidi listened and recently presented the sewing community with her 2nd PDF pattern: the Bubble Pocket Shorts.

We could not think of a more appropriate pattern or friend to begin this series. You see, Heidi believed in us from the beginning – giving us the opportunity to guest post on her blog’s “Knock it Off” series last fall. We had barely begun to blog, and had only a handful of followers…yet she still gave us the opportunity to share with her readers. It wasn’t about blog traffic, growth, bettering herself, etc. OBVIOUSLY. We had nothing to give her in return for the opportunity other than a “thanks for believing in us!”
This series isn’t about the biggest, or most popular, sewing blogs …. It’s about our sewing community: mixing blogs of various sizes {blogs range in size from six members to thousands of followers} – each with fabulous creations to share; increasing an awareness of some awesome bloggers that may or may not have received the accolades deserved; and having a lot of fun in building a sense of camaraderie and friendship through it all! We actually laughed out loud when a future “Flip this Pattern” competitor agreed to compete, yet cited the fact she wouldn’t be driving up our blog traffic, etc. because that wasn’t what her blog was all about.  Ummmm, yeah….we aren’t worried about that either. We asked these ladies to compete because we believed in them and their work…..just like Heidi did us.  Forget the “who’s who”….and let’s have fun, shall we?

The June “Flip this Pattern” competitors have been chomping at the bit to show you their “Flipped Creations”….and they are ready to knock your sewing socks off…..trust us! But first, a little introduction of each is in order {introduced in the order of their upcoming “Flipped Appearance”}!

Lisa {mommy’s apron strings}

Hi! I’m Lisa {seen above at age 4} and I blog at Mommy’s Apron Strings. I have a great family: my hubby of nearly 20 years and 5 great kiddos, Pete (17), Katie (15), Rosie (13), Davy (8) and Andy (3). As you can imagine, they keep me really busy. In my free time, I love to do all kinds of sewing, smocking, embroidery, quilting, knitting, and crochet. If there’s a craft, I’ve probably tried it! I’ve been sewing since I was 10 when I smocked myself a pinafore. I started blogging 3 years ago to share my creations and have found many friends along the way, which has been such a blessing! I am just starting to create my own patterns to share. Some of my other favorite things: babies, yard sales, vintage sewing patterns, the Waltons, reading, photography, Harry Potter, and chocolate cake- but maybe not in that order.

Suzanne {winter wonderings}

Hi All, I am Suzanne and I blog over at Winter Wonderings… where I started sharing my sewing and crafting projects after baby girl was born.  Honestly, it started as a way to fill those middle of the night feeding hours, and then I was hooked.  I also have twin boys who just turned two in February – three children, two and under, is quite a handful and an adventure all rolled into one.  If it weren’t for my amazingly supportive husband, Julian, I wouldn’t be here at all.

 (yeah, they’re cute enough to keep)

I am so excited to be here as a part of the Flip This Pattern:  What an awesome series started by two such amazing women.  I love the fact that this format challenges me to go further, try new things, and re-explore patterns I already love.  Thank you for having me – and watch out ladies… cause here I come ;o)…Hugs!

Marta  {do guincho}

Hi! My name is Marta and I live in Cascais, Portugal, near a beach called Guincho. That’s why my blog’s name is doguincho (it means “From Guincho”) and it posts my adventures as a crafter, architect, windsurfer, and mother of two girls. I’m absolutely thrilled to be part of the “Flip This Pattern” series and I feel truly honored for the opportunity of flipping Heidi’s gorgeous Bubble Pockets Shorts! I hope you enjoy my flip!

These ladies will be presenting their “Flipped Creations” for the next three Thursdays
before voting for your favorite opens on Friday, June 21.
And what are they hoping to win??
What exactly does the June “Flip this Pattern” prize package include?
Today, we would love to share with you the June “Flip this Pattern” sponsors {PLEASE NOTE: there are other sponsors in the works….these are merely the June ones}, and what they will be offering as prize packages for this month of the series!! *And, yes…we “flipped out” a bit when these commitments came through.SPONSOR #1:The Fabric Stash, an online fabric store that offers an array of fabric for the avid sewist to choose from….It is a family-run online fabric retail business – specializing in contemporary cottons, fabric imported from Japan, and patterns ideal for children’s clothes.

I, personally, like the way The Fabric Stash is organzied by types of fabric, as well as by color! This speeds up the selection process for the ever-indecisive duo that we are…. Top that with Janice’s ability to sell fabric by using her adorable model, Julia {aka: her precious daughter}, and sewing expertise in matching fabrics together – and it’s a winning combination!

The Fabric Stash is graciously giving the winner a $30 gift certificate to use at their online store.

SPONSOR #2:
Who doesn’t love Birch fabrics???  The texture alone in these fabrics might cause one to swoon, but throw in the design component of each fabric line and …..insert audible gasp….. it is almost too much for the fabric lover to take! Birch Fabrics, mixes retro style with whimsical juvenile accents that lend themselves perfectly to nursery bedding, while still being sophisticated enough for pillows on your sofa, or curtains in your craft room. In addition, their fabric is produced from 100% organic cotton, and printed with low impact dyes.
Birch fabrics will be giving the winner 2 yards of fabric within a specified fabric line – winner’s choice of the fabric within the line!
SPONSOR #3:
Top those prizes off with the generosity of Heidi who is giving the winner a free copy of her yet to be released latest pattern (is the suspense killing you?)!!
What a fantastic start to the year-long series, wouldn’t you say?!?!?
If you aren’t excited enough about this series yet…..
Come back tomorrow for the June sew-along prize announcements
{that we are equally excited about},
as well as the opening of the Sew-Along Linky Party! See you then!

You are amazing, Emily & Ashley! Your vision with this series sums up just what the sewing community is all about: the designs and clothing themselves. What a great introduction to this series! I am so excited to see what everyone comes up with and to learn more about the other contestants! This is going to be such a fun year!!
On a more personal note, as one of the bloggers participating (and I am still in awe that I am!) I have to say the beginning of this post brought tears to my eyes. Your reason for choosing the blogger/sewists that you did really means a lot to me! I don’t have a big following and it’s not the reason that I do what I do but it is such a wonderful feeling to have someone believe in you and think that your creations are special (you know someone besides your mom ;)).I seriously can’t thank you both enough for this opportunity and am looking forward to sharing my “flip” with everyone!
Okay sorry for the gushy comment 😉 Can’t wait for all the fun!

    We constantly give that quote to our mom and dad….”yeah, but you’re our mom/dad…..you’ve got to like it!” Blogging gives us the affirmation in our creations that go above the parents’ compliments :)! We are thrilled you agreed to be a part of this series! As far as the intro, well that’s what happens when one is passionate about something – it’s hard to keep me quiet!

    We never knew a week could be so long….hard to keep the other competitors’ creations under wraps! Oh, and we love our blogging friends – as shown in our introduction – you ladies are the ones who push us to better our sewing skills on a daily basis…

    Suzanne, you’re the sweetest! I’m humbled, but honestly, the only reason I can inspire is because I am inspired – by you, and the many other ladies in this sewing community who put their heart and soul into their creations.

    How neat! Funny thing about you and your increasing notoriety: one of my closest friends texted me a Pinterest pin last night….it was one of yours!! I quickly responded and had to let her know that I “know” you :)! Small, blogging world, huh?!?!
