June “Flip this Pattern”: WINNERS ANNOUNCED

We must ask, “are we having fun yet?!?!”
“Flip this Pattern, Month One” is in the books…..and, boy, oh boy, it didn’t disappoint!
Three fantastic guest contributors {Lisa, Suzanne, and Marta} and 35+ sew-along creations whet our appetites for the endless possibilities for sewing Elegance and Elephants Bubble Pocket Shorts.
We asked; you answered. And, according to us – we are indeed having fun….and LOTS of it!

Wow, at the inspiration popping up all over the blogging community!! And, just for fun, here are our dad’s “Fantastic Five” of the sew-along group {because he has requested ‘a voice’ since the series onset}:

Flutterby Bubble Pocket Romper | Knit Skirt | Stash Buster Fabric Scrap Shorts
Burst Your Bubble Shorts | Favorite Shorts Romper

This was in no way associated to the actual sew-along judging, and there is no prize assocated with it. …just the glory of being one of our dad’s favorites {and if you are curious as to his accolades for your creation….send us an email and we’ll be sure to pass on his proclaimed praise for each of your creations}. The only ‘reward’ is a sidebar button we created, proclaiming that these entries were “Father’s Fantastic Five!” And, although it was harder than what he originally anticipated, he said he’ll be back next month to pass out his praise to five more sew-along entries!!

But enough about the “fun”….let’s get down to the winners, shall we?!?!  Participating bloggers in the sew-along entries didn’t make it easy for the judges!!  We asked our panel of judges to judge these entries based on the following factors:

1. Creativity / Originality of Design. *How was the pattern flipped? Was it original? Was it creative? Did it make the judge say, “Aaaahhhhh, that’s a pretty neat concept!”

2. Quality of the garment sewn. *Of course they couldn’t touch it, critique it, etc. BUT hopefully they got a feel for the garment construction through the photos.

3. Wearability. *This doesn’t need to be mistaken that the garment must have been modeled {We did NOT make that a rule in the sew-along competition, so participants weren’t penalized if it weren’t modeled. While it was nice and helpful for judging, it wasn’t a necessity}…..Instead, we asked that they think of it as a ‘functional wardrobe piece.’

4. Overall appeal of the outfit. *Completely subjective….and was based on judges’ tastes and preferences.

*Many participants included tutorials for their “flip,” but again – this wasn’t a prerequisite for entering. VERY HELPFUL {and generous of them}, but not a necessity!

The sew-along winner was An Apprentice Housewife with her Girlie Ruffles Bubble Shorts with Suspenders.

The judges stated:
*This entry remained true to the original pattern with adding a twist of her own. I love the ruffled straps and ruffles on the pockets! I’d love to try this myself. Great FLIP!
*This flip version manages to maintain the much-needed wearability of the shorts while incorporating some adorable features: extra ruffles and eyelet at the suspenders and the pockets look sweet without being ‘too much.’
*I love the addition of the suspenders and the ruffles on the pockets.

Congratulations! Grab your button, and display it proudly on your site! You will be receiving a $20 Fabricworm gift certificate, Heidi’s latest {not yet released} pattern, and a “Mystery Bundle” of sewing goodness from Heidi as well!!

And, for the viewers’ choice award? Marta’s FLIP of her Bubble Pocket Rompers came out on top as the winner.

Congrats, Marta! Here is the viewers’ choice button to proudly display on your sidebar as well.

You will be receiving a $30 gift certificate to The Fabric Stash, 2 yards of Birch fabric, and Heidi’s latest {not yet released} pattern!

A hearty congratulations to both winners!!  Visit both of them today {here and here} to give them some virtual pats on the back, as well as check out other items on their blogs that interest you!

Sad that it is over? There is absolutely, positively no need to be! We’re only 1/12 of the way through the series.  And, for you non-mathematicians, that’s only 8.333% of awesomeness said and done!

Your dad is cool! I’d love to know what he had to say about my skirt! Can’t wait for next month. Though, I really need to win a copy of that pattern… I blew all my sewing money on fabric!

He LOVES his role in the series! As for your ‘flipped skirt’, he liked the use of knit….it looked so comfortable for an active child….you thought out of the box, yet kept some of the main features of the original pattern. {said very animated}….

No giveaways this month, but there is a discount code to grab! Hope you are able to play along this month….

Congratulations!
I strongly believe everyone that joined the challenge is a winner – It’s always so difficult to flip a pattern (and it’s even more difficult to flip a very good one like the bubble shorts). all the creations were amazing :-)
Thank you for all the inspiration – I’ll be “borrowing” some ideas for my girl …
