June “Flip this Pattern”: Flipped Creation Three

Marta, from do guincho, is here to give you her “Flipped Creation”
for the E&E Bubble Pocket Shorts.
********************************************************************************

I love restyling patterns and giving them new looks! And recreating a pattern as cute as the Bubble Pockets Shorts could not be more exciting and fun. So I couldn’t help myself and I made, not one, but two flips! Here are the Bubble Pockets Rompers!…

…citywear version …
 …and beachwear version!
To make these rompers I’ve put together a bodice based on the Popover Sundress by Oliver+S (I love this simple, classical pattern!) and the original Bubble Pockets Shorts. Simple, right?!

For citywear version I chose simple white and yellow striped cotton seersucker. To give it a girly look I added a bit of “broderie anglaise” on the pockets and yokes and all these details were finished with white bias tape. The goal was to have a stylish outfit but still somewhat classic and discreet.

No changes were made to the original Bubble Shorts Pattern (why change something that is already perfect?!) and, for the bodice, I’ve just adapted the width and length of the O+S dress pattern, keeping its front and back pieces with the same design and shoulder straps with little ties.

Teresa’s photo shoot was made at Casa dos Condes de Castro Guimaraes’ gardens, here in Cascais, and I love the contrast between the old “azulejos” (typical Portuguese tiles) and her new summer outfit…

The beachwear version is a lot more bold and edgy! The fabric is dark blue cotton with white flowers that kind of look vintage and all finishing were made in orange neon bias tape and matching thread (it seems to be a trend this year!).

As in the city version, the shorts keep their original shape but the bodice has undergone a major transformation. As I wanted to have an open back, the bodice ties around the neck with two big sprites of neon bias tape.

The photo shoot took place in the walkway that connects our home to Guincho’s beach and Teresa had lots of fun climbing, sliding, and playing in the dunes with her new romper!

“Flip this Pattern” voting will begin tomorrow, Friday, June 21 and run through Sunday, June 23.
And, in the meantime, link up your “Flipped Pattern”
{there are only a few hours left….the linky party ends tonight at 11:00 PM CST}
and be inspired by others sewing along!

Amazing, Marta! I really love both, but I’m a sucker for seersucker, so that first one is my favorite :-)

Oh. my. goodness. The bubble pocket shorts are soooo cute as a romper. I didn’t think I could like this pattern any more than I already do. Now I really need to buy it.
