Chocolate Covered Sand Dollars, Anyone?

THIS CHILD…our spunky, little niece,
one with “no filter” and many “quotes of note” day in, and day out.
For EA’s coordinating top, we chose Creation by Michie’s Sunsuit / Dress pattern {#120}. The sizing only went up to 24m {and EA is approaching her third birthday}, but since the style was a generous fit, we decided to sew it nonetheless.
Since the pattern was actually for a dress, we determined the top’s finished length based on her past measurements, but realized soon after trying it on her – the length was skimpy at best. We’ve since taken out the hem, and made a narrower one to remedy that situation.
We stuck to this pattern from beginning to end {the only change was shortening it to make a top}. On the yoke portion of the top, we added three sand dollar embellishments that we shadow embroidered to continue the “beach portrait” look we were aiming to achieve. We stitched these using DMC 738, and thought it matched the cream in the shorts nicely.
Piping was placed between the yoke and main part of the top.
We created this piping from leftover material from the shorts.
It was a nice outfit, but not “stiff or binding” for an active 2.5 year old!
She had full freedom and movement – as evidenced in many of the photos taken.
She really, really, really wanted to feed the geese. MISTAKE!
After much hissing and carrying on, one goose finally latched on to some meat.
And, the result was pitiful at best.
*We ask that you refrain from passing judgment on the aunt
that was documenting the moment the bite occurred {side note: we love our new camera},
as well as the heartbreak afterwards…
So, it was determined we all needed ice cream. All in favor…raise your hand….
EA didn’t hesitate in her selection: CHOCOLATE!
And, couldn’t wait to get her hands {and mouth} on the savory goodness….bib or no bib…
Now, a bib was put on this child, by an aunt, in a hurry to get to her own ice cream.
The results: one grubby, disheveled little girl…
But, what a beautiful mess…”melts” our hearts!!

Poor baby! Ice cream is a great ‘problem fixer’, isn’t it? The top is adorable. Love the shadow worked sand dollars.

Aww, she is so cute! Geese are not my favorite animals because of their bite-y tendencies…. but ice cream is the best fix! =) I love the shadow-embroidery you did, and the top is darling!

Oh dear! Poor baby (glad an ice cream got her smile back. Ice cream is renowned for that, lol).
Love the outfit – the top is adorable and the embroidery looks perfect, as usual :-)

Thanks everyone! She had a fantastic day….even though it came with trouble. We’ve since seen more geese (different park, different day), and have kept a safe distance!
