“Timeless Simplicity”: PR&P Signature Style, season 6

Wow….it is finally here: week 6 of Project Run and Play season six….THE SIGNATURE STYLE! We have sewn along for the past three seasons, yet we feel this is the first season our signature style is a true reflection of ‘our look.’

It’s taken some time in defining a style and honing into its components, but here are some common threads we see emerging in our garments, time and time again:
Vintage inspired
Simplicity of design
Solid, muted {neutral or pastel} colors
Piping, Pleats, and/or Peter Pan collars
Interesting Buttons
Embroidery Details

We intended to only complete one outfit for this week, but since we had another project planned and in the works for CL {matching EA’s, showcasing our signature style components, and being on a seasonal time crunch}, we opted to complete the twosome for our final entry.

Unfortunately, several extenuating circumstances prevented the nieces’ modeling of the garments prior to the deadline. However, we hope to snap a few candid shots when they visit for the weekend {*so, stay tuned…if interested}!

**UPDATE: Photos have been taken and can be seen here…

Now, for the breakdown:

EA’s outfit was made using the vintage pattern, Simplicity 6766 {view 1, lengthened}.

We opted to add a dainty French knot design around the collar and cuffs,
instead of the suggested lace accent.

It is a simple, pastel dress – one that includes a Peter Pan collar and pleats. The buttons add to its vintage flair, although they are cheap/plastic ones from Joanns. **Shhhh, don’t tell :)!

We did veer from our ‘signature’ a bit when we added an invisible zipper {ie: our very first zipper….ever}. There were definitely some growing pains involved in the zipper process. Three online tutorials and a youtube video later, the zipper was installed….although not exactly invisible!

Must…work…on…that…sewing…reSEWlution…a…bit…more!!

CL’s outfit used more of the never-ending, king-sized white sheet
from PR&P’s season 5, “White Sheet Challenge.”

We sewed a ‘vintage inspired’ Oliver + S puppet show dress
{lengthening the sleeves by four inches to make a long-sleeve version}.

We “single piped” between the yoke and skirt portions,
but “double piped” around the collar, cuffs, and band.

The dress included 114 snowflakes (112 in the skirt portion, and 2 as collar details) – 4 different designs, 2,682 straight stitches, and 369 French knots. But who’s counting?!?!?

With fourteen days remaining in February,
it was time for the snowflakes to be completed and worn!!

Thank you, Project Run & Play, for giving us a swift kick in the “sewing pants”
to complete this outfit in time for “Signature Style Week”…
